How To Identify Bootlegs from Licensed Copies
Labels
The best way to insure a CD is legit is to look at the label. Gundam Wing and related TWO-MIX songs were released exclusively under King Records/Star Child. TWO-MIX left King in 1999 and is now under Warner Music Japan. Star Child is a sub-group of King Records that specializes in animation music. Bootleg labels include SonMay, and Ever Anime.
Legit Labels:
Item Images
Ebay is great in the sense that it lets sellers post pictures of what they are selling. When shopping look for photos of the CD that the seller has taken themselves. Listings that use a stock image or pictures that are not of the CD itself (but of Gundam Wing in general) are very iffy. If you think there is potential ask the seller for a photo before you buy. Specify that you want to see the record label in the image. Honest sellers will graciously give you a photo, whereas ones who sell bootlegs will avoid sending you that photo.
Gundam Wing CD Covers
Below is what the CD cover should look like in photos. Note that some of the booklets are able to be refolded to feature a different image. Operation 4 is also known to have come with a plastic slip case.

New, Factory Sealed
Don't expect to find a new and sealed copy of an old soundtrack. Many dealers use this to entice people to buy their bootlegs. Others are ignorant about their item being a bootleg. It is possible to be new, but not likely. The one I got "new" at a convention was severely crushed from being transported for so long. And the dealer wouldn't give a discount for the damage. It is most likely you'll find a used copy of the CD, and it may be cheaper.
Complete/Best Song/Singles Collection
You may find a CD claiming to be a 2 disc set of the best music from Gundam Wing. This CD was never produced by King Records, so therefore it automatically qualifies as a bootleg. Having a CD set with all the character songs on it is tempting, and that's why pirates make it.

Buying at Conventions
This applies to any and every CD you might buy at a convention. You should always research the albums/artists you are interested in buying before you go to the convention. You should at least know the record labels that are legit and ones that aren't, if not the artist's specific label. See "labels."
